When Winston Churchill died, Queen Elizabeth II expressed her profound sorrow and admiration for his leadership. In a letter of condolence to Lady Churchill, she stated that the world was “the poorer by the loss of his many-sided genius,” and that Churchill’s leadership during wartime would be a lasting memorial.
