Sven-Göran Eriksson (born 5 February 1948) (died 26 August 2024 (age 76 years), Sunne, Sweden} is a Swedish football manager and former player. As a manager, Eriksson won eighteen trophies with a variety of league clubs in Sweden, Portugal and Italy, between 1979 and 2000. He became the first manager to win league-and-cup doubles in three countries. Later he managed the national teams of England, Mexico and the Ivory Coast, as well as two clubs in England. Eriksson has worked in nine countries: Sweden, Portugal, Italy, England, Mexico, Ivory Coast, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and China.
In January 2001 Eriksson became the first foreign manager to take charge of the England national team. Throughout his five-year reign, of the 67 matches played, England won 40 games and lost 10. Almost immediately, he turned the team’s fortunes around and they qualified top of Group 9 in 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifying.
They qualified ahead of Germany and remained unbeaten after Kevin Keegan’s side had lost to the Germans, in what was the last ever game at the original Wembley Stadium. In July 2007, virtually a year to the day that he left the England job, Eriksson was confirmed as the new manager of Manchester City after signing a three-year contract worth £2 million per year, plus bonuses.
He was City’s first manager from outside the United Kingdom. On 5 December 2016, Eriksson became the manager of China League One side Shenzhen FC, replacing Clarence Seedorf. He won his first six matches of the season of 2017, including five league matches and an FA Cup match. However, Eriksson was sacked on 14 June 2017, following a nine-game run without a win. Wikipedia
